Kidspace - For homework help or something to do on a rainy day, ipl KidSpace is a great place to begin. It's an easy-to-use portal that points kids directly to the information they need, and all the resources are age-appropriate. TeenSpace, a separate portal site, provides similar services for the 13-and-up set.

Safechild  - Dave Barry says kids start trying to kill themselves around age 2, and it's parents' job to stop them. SafeChild.net takes neurotic parenting to a new level. You'll find safety tips and helpful articles on nearly every child-related activity, and a fully searchable, well-organized recall database lets you know exactly which toys, clothes, and furniture items are potential hazards to your child's well-being.

Windows to the Universe -  Send your kids to this site whenever they need information about space and the planets. It's bursting with information, including real-time images of near-Earth space, biographies of scientists, and even educational games. A clever feature lets you adjust the detail level of the content—detailed for you, simple for your grade-schooler.

Kid's Health for Kids - This site may take some of the sting out of growing pains. Step by step, it breaks down puberty and other health issues for kids, all in a language they can understand and a style they can relate to. Everything from bedbug bites to strep throat to the importance of breakfast is covered here, and the animated movies on how various bodily systems work shouldn't be missed. There are links to health sections for parents and teens, too.

Global Children's Art Gallery - This site makes the most of a simple idea: Let children from around the world submit their artwork, and display the pictures in an online gallery. Children ages one through twelve have posted their work, and free scanning is provided if needed.

The @rt room - Take yourself on an "art adventure!" At this site, you will find mind-expanding art activities, a gallery of children's artwork from around the world, and a list of Web links for art teachers.

ProtoZone Interactives - A fun collection of web-sized drawing interactives that are are excerpts from larger software programs designed by Al Jarnow.

The Collage Machine - The National Gallery of Art's NGAkids Art Zone Collage Machine is fun for children of all ages. This Shockwave interactive encourages compositional experimentation and an exploration of photomontage and collage techniques though a hands-on virtual art activity.

In Search of the Ways of Knowing Trail - Your jeep breaks down on your way to the remote village of Epulu in central Africa. You along with four youths from different local cultures are forced to walk through the Ituri Forest to get there. Together you'll have to navigate the forest by foot to arrive at Epulu. In the process you'll learn about plants, animals, and survival. You'll need the free Flash Player.

Burarra Gathering - Go fishing and crab hunting with the Burarra people of Australia! Kidwizard - With games, science spells, slimy potions, and interactive stories, this site can put some magic into a kid's day.

NGA Kids - This terrific site features lots of fun online activities and projects. You can take a virtual tour of the sculpture garden through an online animated story. You can also learn about the use of shapes, lines, different brush strokes, color, and more through activities that involve analysis of famous paintings. This site is best viewed using the Flash Player and the QuickTime Player.

You'll find activities, games, crafts, and information about earth science, ecology and Earth Day. There are also recycling kits, facts, lists and teacher/parent pages.

Kids' Space - At this excellent kids' site you can view artwork from children around the world and submit your own (as long as you're a kid). You can also read and submit stories by children, hear music composed and performed by children, or search for a pen pal.

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis: Fun Online - This site is loaded with fun activities and exhibits. You can watch videos of how Kinetosaurs (giant metal sculptures of dinosaurs that move) are made and see them in action. At the Arts Workshop you can make your own multimedia puppet show. Check out the Cosmic Quest section where you can design your own space station online and learn about our solar system.

ArtSafari - The Museum of Modern Art in New York has created this nifty art activity for kids ages 5 to 12, in which kids get to explore and write about art.

Thunk.com - A kids' site looking at the fun and mystery of cryptography, the science of secret codes, with lots of activities.

Design Your Future - Math, science, and technology resources and inspirations to support girls' involvement in scientific careers.

SuperKids - A good site for parents seeking non-commercial reviews of educational software and games.

The Terriers Satellite Project - This site offers some excellent material about this satellite, which was designed and built to observe earth‚s ionosphere. Check out the video of the satellite being launched from theback of a jet plane!

Haring Kids - Making use of cutting-edge animation plug-ins like shockwave and flash, this site creates a colorful and compelling whirlwind of art, with beautiful images from artist Keith Haring.

Hamsterscope - This beautiful site, with illustrations by children's book artist Peggy Rathman, offers step-by-step instructions to make a visual illusion called a Phenakistoscope.

The Rainbow Maker - Meet a man who travels the world making 2000 foot rainbows using powerful pumps and the sun's light. If you can ignore the annoying Muzak accompaniment, this site is great fun.

Professor Bubbles; Official Bubble Homepage - Don't be fooled by those "unofficial" bubble homepages. This is the "official" one and with a name like "Professor Bubbles" we believe him.

You Can With Beakman and Jax - An interactive site for kids that answers science questions. The site also contains some recommended links. Kids will like the cartoon artwork.

The Science Club - A great resource for kids, teachers and parents with answers to general science questions and suggestions for science projects.

Little Explorers - An alphabetic exploration for the youngest web surfers. Links are carefully choosen, so the content is approriate for small children.

World Kids Network - One of the better sites for kids that we've come across. Check out the chat area. There is a Java drawing program that is quite good.

Animals, Myths & Legends - A cool site for our youngest visitors. I found the legends area the most interesting. Ever wonder how the kangaroo got its tail?

The Bear Den - Finally, a site for bears on the Internet! From the "roaring" bear welcome to the "Cub Den" (for kids), this site has everything you want to know about bears.

A Girl's World - A great site just for girls. The site includes activities, "meet incredible women," and even secret diaries.

Kid'n Around - A well put together site with plenty of activities for kids (and parents). Kid'n Around includes sections on sports, science, books, and more.

World Surfari - Each month World Surfari takes you to a different country. This site has colorful images and lots of information on the country they are focusing on. There is even a message board just for kids.

Tales of Wonder - A collection of folk and fairy tales from all over the world. The stories are presented in big letters for little eyes.

NPR Science Friday Kids Connection - Information about the popular NPR radio show designed just for kids. There are activities, home experiments and more.

Aunt Annie's Craft Page - A cool place for kids. A different project posted every week. Past projects are archived.

Kids and Educational Shockwave Epicenter - A listing of sites and resources that use Shockwave. These sites require the Shockwave Player.

PEP - Looking for educational software? PEP is an informational resource for parents, educators, and children's software publishers.

International Kids' Space - A fun-filled page just for kids. The site includes: storybooks, artwork, a listing of kids' homepages, and a lot more.

KidNews - KidNews is a free news and writing service for students and teachers around the world.

Children's Literature Home Page - This cool site helps parents find the best children's books available. There are lots of book reviews and other helpful information.

Wangaratta Primary School - While making this link we realized that this was the first primary school we've ever directly connected to! It's a great site with fun activities for kids. The kookaburra sound and story are great. The school is located in Wangaratta, Australia.

The Yuckiest Site on the Internet - This site calls itself "the grossest family site on the Net." With areas like Cockroach World, it's easy to agree. This site is well presented and a lot of fun.

Pocahontas for American Indian Students - An examination of Disney's animated film "Pocahontas," with some interesting perspectives on the movie. Included on the page is an area where you can express your own opinions.

KidsWeb! Homepage - A World Wide Web digital library for schoolkids. Learn about art, astronomy, chemistry, geography, and physics.

Explores! World Headquarters - Not just a site for teachers or students, this site has a great deal of information about weather. If you are a teacher or student check out the excellent K-12 section.

KIDLINK: Global Networking for Youth 10-15 - A great site aimed at getting children ages 10-15 involved in a global dialog. Kids from 72 countries have participated.

Electronic Zoo - An amazing list of animal-related computer resources. Check and see if your favorite animals have been digitized!

Rainforest Action Network Home Page - Loads of information on the rainforest and what we can do to save it. Includes a section just for kids.

NASA Astrobiology Institute: For Kids - Could there be life elsewhere in the universe? Explore this fascinating question with online adventures, getting your questions answered online in the "Ask a Biologist" section, and more! This site is by the NASA Astrobiology Institute. Various plug-ins are required.

NASA Kids - Fun interactive games, educational cartoons, puzzles, and more make learning astronomy fun!

Kidshealth.org - You'll find great illustrations, cool music, and well-explained lessons about your body at the "My Body" section. These pages feature Shockwave/Flash technology that may take a moment to load, but it's worth the wait.

Neuroscience for Kids -This site is loaded with fun experiments and activities. Start with "Brain Basics" and then explore other topics. Very comprehensive.

The Great Plant Escape - This site uses a mystery-story format to help kids explore and understand the life cycles and structure of plants. The mystery may seem strained to some kids, but the site still offers a wealth of accessible information.

Children’s Books of the Early Soviet Era - Beautiful children’s book covers and illustrations from the early Post-revolution era in Russia.

Tryscience: Experiments - This site has fun "do-at-home" experiments for kids and adults alike on diverse topics in science. An explanation of what's going on and a list of cool links are also provided for each experiment.

Teachers' Guide for the Professional Cartoonists' Index - Information on how to use the Cartoonists Index web site in the classroom. Lesson plans on this site cover a variety of subjects. The cartoons come from Pulitzer Prize winners.

Internet Bonsai Club - Interested in bonsai trees? This site contains information on how to grow your own bonsai trees, FAQ's (frequently asked questions), lots of pictures, and even a bonsai dictionary.

US Patent and Trademark Office Kids' Pages -Want to understand exactly what a patent is, and how to get one? Did you know that the youngest patent-holder was a four year-old girl? This site, though a bit on the clunky side, has some nifty information, games, and puzzles.
