Reflection on Socio-Cultural Reforms Towards Integral Evangelization”.

integral evangelization; (2) to explore other political structures such as
federalism as option for socio-political reforms; (3) to have greater
understanding of Filipino culture in
relation to the present
sub-culture (graft and corruption, traditional politics, hopelessness
,etc.); and (4) to come up with concrete plan of action for advocacy in
schools, parishes, and ministries.

2. 24TH
BISHOPS-ULAMA CONFERENCE (BUC) GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Fifty-six of the 65 members of the BUC registered during the 24th
Gen. Assembly held on 27 July 2004 at Grand Regal Hotel, Lanang, Davao
City.
The BUC started as a Forum
(BUF) for Catholic Bishops in Mindanao and Muslim religious leaders,
members of the Ulama League of the Philippines on 29 Nov.1996 at Cebu
City. There were 18 Catholic Bishops and 24 Ulama. In May, 1997
Protestant bishops and pastors were admitted in the Gen. Assembly in
Marawi City.
Rationale for the BUF
organization was to provide the spiritual groundings for the 1996 Peace
Agreement between the government and the Moro National Liberation Front.
During the 20th General Assembly held in Davao City on Jan.
8-10, 2003 the members decided to shift from mere “forum” to a
strong “conference” towards poverty alleviation.
To date 29 project proposals ranging from P50, 000.00 to P31M
(even up to US $10M) have been presented to the BUC Secretariat in Iligan
City. Investment areas: fishing, noodle processing, seaweed’s refinery,
rice, corn, crabs, coops, bakery, sari-sari store, trainings, peace
centers, reforestation.
Ms. Janette Serano, newly appointed Commissioner of the National
Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and former Executive Director of
the Peasant Fund, presented a Draft Implementing Policies and Guidelines
on the Human Development Fund (HDF). The Government plans to place at the
disposal of the BUC an initial capital of P100M. Details of the HDF will
be discussed with the BUC’s Tripartite Commission or Board.
