KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

The Knights of Columbus is an organization of Catholic laymen whose aim is to develop Christian fraternity and charity and to manifest in their lives a sturdy loyalty to God, to Church, and to Country. The group was founded in 1882 by Fr. Michael McGivney, in New Haven, Connecticut. The first Council of the Knights of Columbus was established in Marbel in 1955.

Today the Knights of Columbus are found in all 22 parishes divided into 7 Districts and 33 Councils. Total number of K of C members in the whole Diocese is about more than 2000.

The K of C in the Diocese of Marbel is organized in 3 levels: Diocesan, Districts (area), and Councils (parish).

Activities in the Diocesan Level consist of an Annual Convention of the Association of the Knights of Columbus, quarterly meeting of the Officers of the Coordinating Council and meeting of the Officers of the K of C Ecological Foundation, Inc.

Activities in the District Level consist of initiation of new council members, seminars for council officers, and sports activities.

Activities in the Council Level are those initiated and accomplished under various committees such as: Community, Council, Family, Youth and Membership.

Other K of C activities include: monthly meetings, Mass sponsorship, free clinic, tree planting, sports and participation in various parish activities during fiestas, Christmas, Holy Week, etc.

CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE

The Catholic Women's League (CWL) is an organization of Catholic women whose purpose is to provide its members means for growth in the  faith and opportunity for apostolic work. Its motto is: charity, work, loyalty. The first CWL group was organized in Marbel in the early '50s.

Today the CWLs are found in 21 parishes divided into 8 vicariates and 47 units. Total number of CWL members at present  is about 2,591. (cf. Organigram below)

The CWL is organized into 3 levels: Diocesan, Vicariates (area), and Units (parish).

The CWL activities in the Diocesan level consist  of biennial convention, quarterly meetings of the Diocesan Officers,  annual retreat/recollection, fund raising for CWL programs, and quarterly publication of the CWL Newsletter.

Activities in the Vicariate Level consist of quarterly vicariate meetings, semi-annual retreat/recollection, and fund raising  for the diocesan activities.

CWL activities in the Unit Level are grouped around the WESTY format: Worship, Education, Service, Temporalities, and Youth.

Other CWL activities include: monthly meetings, Mass sponsorship, recollections, seminars, Bible study, promoting devotions (to the Sacred Heart, Holy Rosary), choir singing, helping at catechesis, free medical/dental clinic, hospital/jail visitation, cleanliness and beautification drive, tree planting, livelihood training program, socials, and participation in various parish activities during fiestas, ordinations, Christmas, Holy week, etc.

DAUGHTERS OF MARY IMMACULATE (DMI)

The Daughters of  Mary Immaculate (DMI) is an association of Catholic Women whose purpose is to provide its members a variety of opportunities for apostolic activity and growth in the Catholic faith (cf. DMI Const. & By-Laws). Known formerly as Daughters of Isabela (DI), an Auxiliary Ladies Circle of the Knights of Columbus,  the group became an independent association  in March 1978. The first group of DI was organized in Marbel in 1962.

Today the DMIs are found in 7 parishes: Marbel (1962), Dadiangas (1975), Lagao (1978), Banga (1979), Polomolok (1991), Alabel (1992) and Malungon (1994). Total number of DMI members at  present is 294.

The  DMI has no diocesan level organization. It has  2  Districts (area level) and 9 Circles (parish level) and it holds an  Annual Convention hosted by a local circle.

The activity of the DMI in the District Level consists of visitation  and consultation of the District Deputy with local  circles under her jurisdiction.

DMI activities in the Circle Level are centered around their 4 Missions: Pro-life, Morality in Media, Upliftment of Women Workers, and Assistance to Prisoners' Families and their Victims.

These various activities are implemented through the DMI  Program Committees and Technical Committees.

Other DMI activities include: monthly meetings, Mass sponsorship, socials, and participation in various parish activities.

LEGION OF MARY

The Legion of Mary is an organization of Catholic laymen and laywomen whose aim is the spiritual development of members through apostolic works of mercy, prayer and sacrifice. The group was founded in 1921 by Mr. Frank Duff, in Dublin, Ireland. The first Praesidium of the Legion of Mary was established in Marbel on October 5, 1952.

Today the Legion of Mary exists in 16 parishes divided into 5 Comitia, 16 Curiae, and 98 Praesidia with about 1,000 active members in the whole Diocese.

The Legion of Mary is organized into various Councils: Praesidium (basic unit), Curia (parish level), Comitium (area level), and the Regia (diocesan level).

The Legion of Mary is not yet formally organized in the Diocesan Level. However, 4 Comitia are at present being organized.

Activities at various council levels consist of Acies (25th of March, December (General Assembly), September (outdoor function) and Congress every two years.

Activities from the Curia to the Comitium to the Regia levels are: monthly meetings, visitation/supervision of the next lower level, collection of reports to the next higher level, sharing of inputs and dissemination of information.

Activities in the Praesidium Level are weekly meetings, home to home visitation (to recruit unwed couples for validation, encourage parents to have their children baptized, give advice to fallen away Catholics to return to the Faith, promote family devotions, visit the sick, etc.), hospital visitation (to find out who needs confession, communion, anointing), and socialization.

Other Legion of Mary activities include Mass sponsorship, helping at catechesis, seminars, retreats/recollections, and participating in various parish activities during fiestas, Christmas, Holy Week, and other celebrations.
